Howdy folks, Well, just got back from a week at the ranch and had a few minutes before I have to head to the bird place so I washed my finds and here are a few pics. Went for a hike in the rain a couple of times and boy seeing the rocks wet really paid off. Found this 14+ pound block of small orb jasper in a roadcut I had hunted lots of times before. There had just been a longhorn cattle roundup that had really broken the banks down before the rain and I guess this one rolled out. Thanks for lookin....Mel Closeup of the chipped edge: On the same hike I found this 21+ pounder of Cosmos Jasper containing a multitude of tiny orbs and spots. Closeup of the chipped edge: Next the results of some poppy jasper digging. Mostly all gone now. First day we about got skunked. Second day out I took my truck back in and man did I get it all scratched up by the brush! Did better that day though and found a new spot that looks promising. Mostly tumble sized stuff but pretty: Did ya ever find a chip and just wish you could the rock it came from. Spectacular huge poppies in this tiny piece: Some of the larger hunks: Of course, no visit to the back country would be complete without a look at the Stinky Horse Hole. Erosion had exposed some new stuff there and has given me a few ideas for a future dig. Big hunks: Some new white on red orbed material. Need to dig more there. This is nice stuff! Finally, one of the nodules I found in the road with a nice red on black piece:

Stones: Yup, that is Hornitos Poppy Jasper. Probably about a dozen or more locations for this material in the area but these days, most all are pretty much exhausted or built upon. Getting pretty hard to score the really nice old timey stuff any more.....Mel

They are sensational. I love the colours and patterns. We've got nothing like that around here. Thanks for sharing.

Holy smokes that there is some fine rocks. Still amazed at what some of you people find lying on the ground.
