OK, I had time to play around with the turntable stillframe idea a little more before I went to bed but I wasn't up for posting any more and thought i'd just save it. As fate would have it I woke up in a coughing fit (aftermath of my last cold) so I decided to down some Nyquil & throw another movie together with the frames I had saved so far while it kicked in. This latest "test subject" is a piece from my "indoor rock collection". It's an aragonite cluster I picked up at The Rockhound Shop on one of my many visits over the years. You can tell I did a bit better job on this one compared to the first chatoyant obsidian cab video in the cabs section so I may decide to redo it if I have time on Sunday...? Well here it is, another 4-dimensional rock picture, enjoy! (click for PB vid) FYI, the acrylic platform is exactly 1" in diameter as a size reference. As I said before, PB degrades the video quality and I do have the original higher res WMV file (762kb) that I would like to post somewhere so I don't end up having to email it to everyone. Post a nice comment if you liked it so I don't feel like I wasted those 3 hours last night eh. ;D Rob

Those were very well spent hours and I got to enjoy the show. I would have thought the Nyquil would put you to sleep! Great job Rob. Thank's for sharing.

Great job Rob. I like the vid AND the rock. Wish I could do some of my druze like that.

Beautiful specimen! Neat video. Three hours for you; many enjoyable hours for all of your RTH viewers! Sounds like a winner to me!

Great presentation! You're setting new standards for displaying our work! But that seems a huge work itself.

Actually, it's not really that bad now. Most of the time I spent on the first one was for image processing. Once I got a better photo set-up going it went a lot smoother with the Aragonite cluster. Maybe 30 min total for shooting & making the vid from the frames. Now i'm starting to think that 4º increments is a bit too much movement between frames for soem things so I may have to gradiate my timing marks down to 2º increments for the really good stuff. Honestly though, I had lots of fun doing it. I like to try out new and interesting photo techniques and this idea has been tumbling around in my brain with the rest of the rocks for some time now. It was about time I atually tried it and what better thing to try it on than rocks! ;D
