Hey Guys!
A friend of mine has a 500 acre farm about 50 miles from me. I asked if I could look around several months ago and he said "Sure, any time you want to" This past Sunday, I wanted to, so off I went. His place is 50 miles north of the good wood and agate hunting area, but I thought what the heck.
He showed me a creek and told me there were lots of rocks , but he didn't have a clue what kind. I looked down in the creek bed and saw tons of iron ore rocks. Again I said what the heck and made my way to the creek bed. It was mostly dry with lots of mud and a few puddles.
The creek bed.
Right off, I found some petrified wood pieces and that kind of brightened my day. After walking a little ways, I stated seeing more and more wood. Then the creek bed was littered with hand size and larger pieces, so I started filling my back pack. When I got it filled, I started looking for a way out.
This is the way out. 15 feet straight up. Aggg
After filling and a few packs full and hauling them to the truck, I found this
Easy digging in the creek bed!
So then, I started working on getting this monster out of the creek. By the time I accomplished that I was worn out and only got a couple more backpacks out.
Here is my load
Most of it has some druzy spots and some is covered.
Two pieces have chalcedony plates that fluoresce red. This is unusual because most of what I find fluoresces yellow.
The most interesting thing I found is a fossilized vertebrae, at least I think it is. If it's not, then I don't have a clue what it is.
I have found a Bison tooth in this area, so I'm thinking it may be a bison vertebrae. Let me know what you guys think.
I had a blast!
Thanks for looking!
Curt
