Ok guys. I found this whatever it is on my last trip. I thought it may be a Bison vertebrae, but looked up some on the net and it isn't. Stonesnbones suggested it may be a calcite wing, but I did and acid test and it's not calcite. So.....what is it? Need more pics? Just ask. Curt

While cleaning 1000 years of grime off these rocks today, I found 2 more pieces. It has a hardness of 7 or more. If it's not some rare alien skeleton, I may be able to get some nice cabs out of it. Curt

Sorry to burst your bubble on that vertebrae Curt.I am convinced that what you have is a pseudomorph.

Not knowing the mineral composition there,I say it appears to be calcite.Buy you doubt that......selenite?Can you get a closer shot of the edge of one of those wings? Its really cool,in the second photo it looks like a dragons head.

Brad Actually the second photo is a close-up of one of the wing on the bottom and part of a second piece on the top. I'll try to get another close-up tomorrow.
As far as I know, there is no calcite here. For sure it isn't calcite now. We do have some selenite. I'm dying to know what it is now as well as what it was.
Hardness of 7 or more No reaction to acid Scratches raw porcelain, but leaves no streak

Thanks Stefan. I think it's pretty awesome myself. Think I should cut it or leave as a specimen? Curt
