I got busy with the saw yesterday & had a lot of fun -- until I trashed my blade and had to stop. Oh, Well. First: A photo of the rough outside of some of the rocks. Here's what was inside. The first one blew my mind. It was showing mostly just a dull gray on the outside -- who knew the inside was going to be amethyst? How about that! Here's what was inside the rest, and another surprise was the stripey patterned nodule at the bottom. It looks just like the ones I pick up at one of my local Mo Lace areas: And some more: I picked up this big thing out by Bagdad. While I was trying to scrape some of the mud off of the outside of a basically dull brown rock, one of our group even asked what I saw in that rock, anyhow. I thought it had possibilities...and I'm very pleased with what turned up when I cut it! And of course I have to show the one that trashed my blade! And now I have to go work the admission table at our club's show. Hope you guys are having a good weekend.

The one that trashed your blade is pretty! Is that Mozarkite?

Randy, all of these came from the Arizona adventure last week, so no mozarkite. However, I found some pieces that look very much like mozarkite.

Hey Puppie. These are all fabulous. When you say amethyst, are you just referring to the lavender color?

Arrgh, nothing worse than a blade buster, I just had my first encounter with that and it SUCKED. Nice cuts though, hope you're keeping track of blade cost/number of cuts you get out of it. I'm going to start doing that from now on since it seemed like my stock WF blade wore out quicker than I excpected. Next I want to see how the legendary MK225 holds up against the two rocks that ate my OEM blade.

Wow- that rock in the middle of the third pic, if rotated 90 degrees clockwise looks like a scene, a brilliant shooting star beneath the clouds at twilight.

Well, silly me! I thought that this was amethyst, but now that I've done some more searches I've found lots of photos of Burro Creek agate and I guess this would be the classic Burro Creek agate that everybody is looking for -- the "blue" agate that ranges through lavender to purple. They call it "amethystine chalcedony." More fun facts to know and tell.

Thanks for the info on the amethystine chalcedony. Being new to the rock world I'm trying to learn all I can. Plus I got a flat rater from Burro Creek too. Now I will know a little bit more about the rocks I received. Maybe I'll have one with this coloring too.

Wow, you really picked up some nice pieces there. I can't wait to see what mine are going to look like. I ran out of the campground and left my boxes on one of the tables. Did you get those in the mail Jamie?

Stoner, YOU LEFT YOUR BOXES? AAAARGH! Remember that piece of jasper you broke off the end of to take a look? I cut a slice off of that same end today and it looked even cooler. I've got 2 12-lb barrels going already. Woohoo!

Don't worry Ed, we gathered all the boxes and I saw two (?) with your name - and I'm sure it was taken care of...I HAVE to saw, timid though I am, on some of the rock I brought back tomorrow! I love the before and after shots, Puppie96! I got there when you left, so we kind of passed each other on this trip! ~Dee

That purple one is just amazing! Great find. I like that yellow moss one too. It looks a lot like the stuff Brian and I found. I'm a little bummed we couldn't find you, but I'm not too bummed because we found a great spot. Sorry to hear you trashed your blade. Those are some hard agates. I had to slow down my saw just to cut some of them. Steve

Cool rocks. I won't get to saw mine until spring when the weather gets warm enough for my fingers.

Hi ED,
Yes I mailed your boxes, sorry for the delay. I don't think we were even home for 24 hours before we had to leave again, actually I guess we were home for about a 1 1/2 days. Just got home again from another cool area, found some pink, orange, green and white marble, also brought home some chrysocolla from an old mine and some Dolomite. I hit the agate pile again and found some beauties, I will post some pics later on. You guys found some neat stuff, Puppie you really got a good variety and Steve, that orbicular stuff you and Beef found is awesome.

Ouch. The one that trashed the blade looks most like the stuff I sent home. I hope a trashed blade is not in store for me too.
