Hello, This Sunday a friend of mine returned from Australia, where he was left for two weeks with his job. Guess what he brought me from there : and, of course my favorite, a pet wood slab with very unusual (for me at least) colors: I think I'll cab the stromatolite, although I like very much the polygonal cut of that one and of the tiger eye. Thanks for looking, Adrian

Thank you. Roxi, the one with the X is chiastolite, also known as andalusite. Here is a link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ChiastoliteTony, the wooden slab is 10 cm (its biggest dimension) Adrian

That's the stromatolite, Randy. The oldest fossils on earth, a sort of algae from about 3 billion years ago.

Wow, I really love them all. I have what was sold to me as a slab of stromatolite that looks very different -- I'll have to post it and see what you think.

Those are really nice, especially the pet wood. Did you polish it or was it already polished? It's just a shame he did not have room for more Mike

Mike, that slab was already polished.
Fossilbrain, I also have a stromatolite tumbled pebble that looks different: no closed curves at all, only wavey pattern.

What a friend you have Adrian! All are great, but I have to go with the pet wood slab as a favorite.
