Wow, I was there once and although I already had a rock yearning, it hadn't become the obsession it is today. I know that I would have loved to look, there seemed to be a lot of it. I'd have probably done the beach thing. There great thing in Cambria is glass. Fabulous. I could spend years in the glass galleries.

Hi Judy. If you are referring to Cambria Ca., you'll be very close to Moonstone beach, where moonstones are abundant and also a good area for Jade. If you have time, head out to Morro Rock and you will find alot of nice rocks already rounded by Nature and ready to tumble.
Have fun, Ed

As a serious newbie to the tumbling world and a resident of Cambria I can give you a few hints. Yes, you can find moonstones on Moonstone Beach, but the problem is that they are not true moonstones but rather Chalcedony. But who cares, they are still real nice. Some of the best rock hounding places are just north of Cambria. Try the Santa Rosa Creek outflow and Pico Creek outflow for great variety and let nature do the 80 grit for you. Hard to find much jade in Cambria (mostly serpentine), so just head north 30 min. to Jade Cove. Yes, there really is a place called Jade Cove with jade lying on the beach. A buddy of mine hauled up a rock from offshore that weighed about 200 lbs of Jade !!! So finding some jade on the beach (especially after a storm) are very common here. Like I said, there is great variety and if you find it wet on the beach pre-polished, you can get a great idea what the finished stone will look like. Have fun!!!
