I'm not familiar with the Houston area. I'm much farther south. I've read somewhere that areas just north and west of houston have lots of petrified wood.

OK that heat index is a bit to much. Atlanta Georgia has the same stuff. I hated it... couldn't even breath!

what about northern New Mexico? The weather is mild, and not so hot in summer. Humidity is low...
I don't really know about the rock hunting there, but seems like most of New Mexico has rocks.
I have been looking at Farmington, New Mexico. Maybe someone knows how the rock situation is there.
My hubby has bad allergies is why I have been checking it out.
