Need a little help, any experience out there on the North Texas (Dallas/Ft. Worth) area for finding anything worth tumbling? Have a large selection of rocks from collecting but with all the reading I've done on this site, I'm interested in what North TX might have to offer.
Thanks for the help.

I wish I could remember the name of the river that I used to hunt for fossils in...
It's North of Dallas but not by way of the Central Expressway... I had to turn North around Mesquite..
Not much help I know...

Have you tried www.mindat.org ? excellent reference for both Minerals and locations. Just look up the place you want to go and you'll be given a list of minerals known to be in that area.. - TRH

TRH: Checked my notebooks on that area. Didn't find much. Cycad & pet wood is mentioned SE of Montague which is NW of you and lots of pet wood and palm down in the Trinity, Caldwell, Giddings, La Grange area 170 or so miles SE of you. Also, SW of you in the Hill Country near San Saba I've hunted crinoidal limestone at the Lambert ranch twice. Don't know if it's still open because CB Lambert must have passed away by now but the stone there is fantastic....mel

yea I've used that site but found the 'Gem Trails of Texas' book to be much more helpful. The guy who wrote it did a lot of hands on research and found lots of good places (most free or at low cost)
