On the downriver side of the Coon Rapids Dam on the Mississippi River, there is a great spot for finding some nice rocks. It's on the Brooklyn Park side of the river in the regional park. Lots of parking and a short very easy walk. The river is way down right now and there are millions and millions of already river tumbled rocks. I've been going down there weekly for the past month and have been finding lots of nice quartz, small lakers and tons of other neat rocks. It's a good safe place to take kids for a rock hunt.
