Davis Creek area? It's a great place, you allowed 500 pounds to take home. or its like six 5 gallons full of rocks. I am planning a trip up there next year.

what else besides obsidian is there to be found there in Davis Creek area? any agates or jasper? thunder eggs?
I am planning a trip next Mar or April driving from Albuquerque NM to Portland OR. And I want to make many, many stops along the way to pick up whatever local rock looks interesting to cut and tumble. I 'm putting together an agenda for the trip up and a different route and agenda for the return back. I hope to do the round trip in about 3 - 4 weeks, spending some time with my daughter in Portland in between. cuervo

I've seen petrified wood from the Goose Lake shoreline and from Cedar Pass se of Davis Creek. Also found some fair jasper in the area but not much. Mostly famous for obsidian. My favorites are what they call "dried Prune nodules". These obsidian nodules are all wrinkled on the outside and look like old prunes, but on the inside can have almost any kind of obsidian, sheens, whorls, muticolored etc. real Nice stuff! If you go to Plum Creek campground just outside Davis Creek, the creek bottom just outside the camp is paved with beautiful nodules of obsidian. Watch the forest service roadsides for obsidian needles too. Some of them are quite large and contain great rainbow obsidian....Mel
