Eastern Colorado may be a tough place to find good collection sites, as it is flat and uneventful. I've been out that way a few times over I-70 but I really can't remember any specifics other than the blandness. Get yourself to the Rocky Mountain Front (about halfway through the state) and anywhere west of that and you will have your pick of great collection sites.

Yea I hear ya entrerh9, but we're going to a B-Day party/reunion. I used to live in Colorado Springs awile back and would love to get up around Estes Park again (just not this trip). I was hoping that along the way i'd be able take a short side trip or two to break up the drive. I read through the postings and found some ideas in Kanasa and Ill. just trying to get a feel for where would be a good place to strech our legs! Bill

Thanks jerryb, I've done that, got Chapman marked on my map as well as a spot near Councel Grove for Flint and another fossil spot near Topeka. I'm kind of thinking about taking I64 through Louisville to St Louis and then I70 (to see if I can get some Kentucky agate;-)) Bill

Hey Bill! If you stop by Chapman, I can highly recommend the Irish Grill in that town as a place to eat lunch. They have an awesome pork tenderloin sandwich and an order of french fries is enough to feed 3-4 people! Cheap too! The Irish Grill is located about 4/5 doors to the left on Hwy 40 where you want to turn right to get to the rock site. EVERY time we travel back to that area, we make it a point to stop for a pork tenderloin at the Grill. Yup, they are that good!

Deb, thanks for the tip about the Irish Grill, that sounds GREAT! I'm sure that the family will like that ;D jerryb, I got to be more creative, we're going to RV it, so 'bathroom breakers' aren't a good excuse to stop. I've been Googling for good rock hounding spots, and swinging through Kentucky sound really good to me. I don't think my wife will mind, we can check out the folk art ( she likes quilting). Really looking forward to the trip ;D Bill
