I am going to be heading to Utah for a weekend and am planning to go to Topaz mountain. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to bring to increase my chances of finding something good? Also, what should I look for to help me find the goodies hidden there? ;D
Thanks in advance!

Don't know much about the area but was talking to some Utah collectors at the gem show yesterday and they had some of the nicest looking purple lace type agate that they mined from veins at the Topaz Mountain area. So, don't just look for crystals, watch for those agate veins too.....mel

When are you planning your trip out there? I'd recommend a Fall trip, because it's hot out that way. It's huge country and it's not as easy as it sounds to find the sherry-topaz. I'd love to hook up with you and show you a hole my brother and I have been digging over the last eight years (off and on) that would definitely guarantee you some Sherry-Topaz. Get in touch with me, there's Apache Tears and Butterscotch Jaspers in the area as well as the Berylium Open Pit mines. Lots of cool fluorescent materials out there as well. Lots of great stuff to see.
