Where are some good rockhounding areas around Chico? I will be going up there in a month to visit a friend and we plan on going rock hunting. We just need to know where there are good deposits of decent rock. I read somewere that there is Jade around Orland , we would really like to find that site! If anyone could help us out I would really appreciate it! Debbie

I don't know much about the area east of Chico, but with Mt Lassen and all I expect there would be some good collecting up that way. I've found some nice Jasper in Stoney Creek upstream from Black Butte lake, about an hour to the west from Chico; The location marked 2 would be a place to start, then up between 3 and 4, and all the way to Elk Creek wherever you can find clear access- don't want to encourage any tresspassing though, as a lot of this is private land. And my guess would be that any jade found in Orland had to wash down either from up north or from out this way, so you might find some of that along here too.

I meant to write in my original post it was Jasper I heard about in that area. I just didn't know exactly where to look. Thanks again. Debbie
