Greetings All, Just got back from an overnight camping trip to Dismals Canyon, Alabama. What a remarkable place! It is a small canyon, up to 100 feet or so deep and probably not a mile long, that is privately owned but open to the public for camping, hiking, swimming and picknicking. Very much worth the trip if ya'll are ever in Northern AL. Their website is www.dismalscanyon.com/William C

Hey, I've been there! It is a great place but I've only been in the spring. Now if you can find someone in the northwest corner of the state that will let you on thier land, you can pan for gold. My uncle's brother lives up there and we use to go a pan when I was younger. We only found flakes but I managed to find lots of posion ivy as well.
