Hi Ms. Cina: Wish I was with you in South Dakota. Way back in 1975, my wife and I on vacation was driving between Devils Tower and Rapid City. We were going about 60 when she hollowed "stop right here". So I did. In a road cut cut was a layer of brown in a greyish clay. The layer of material that looked like agate or jasper, turned out to be fossil algae. It takes a great polish. Exactly where between the cities, I just plain don't remember. Just a little information sharing. Take Care from Geogia !!!

I must have missed this thread before -- your fave is my fave too! I have a whole bunch of rocks that look just like yours and now and then, there's a standout like that one. That's just the greatest place, I love it.
