Yeah, I know about laguna agates, chihuahua, etc in the interior where the serious miners go. Anybody know whether there's anything to pick up in the typical Yucatan tourist areas? Even the location of a rocky beach that has promise? Another advance note, I do know that the Yucatan is limestone etc., but MO is similar and we have good agates here.

One of our club members did a presentation on that area. Had lots of pics but seemed like it was all mostly limestone, travertine and fossils in limestone. Had no quartz gems to show at all....mel

Thanks Mel, that's about what I figured, unfortunately. I picked up some promising looking green and purple rock in the islands once, but it mostly didn't polish well.

There ain't nothing worth picking up in Puerto Vallarta, the mountains are granite (no agate).

The wife and I were planning a trip to Cancun next Jan. for a few days and were wondering about collecting down there but , it seems to be all lime stone and fossile type pickings. Nothing in the way of agate.

If you can afford the rockhound's trip of a lifetime, try Argentina.
