Me and the family are headed to Florida for vacation the first week of April, and was wondering if anyone has any info on what might be available to find while we are there. I've looked back through some of the posts but it doesn't look like Florida has much to offer in the way of good stuff to hunt. The agatized coral looks great but was wondering if there would be more stuff on the beaches to look for - or anyplace else for that matter. Anyone have any info?

There are mamal; and reptile fossils from the Mioscene, and the Tanpa Bay coral if sliced and polished can fetch a nice price. TheGemSHop just had some lots with abotu 22 polished slices go for over $150 on ebay.

Hi, You didn't say where in Florida, not that it matters a real lot...It is somewhat expensive to go to Rucks Pit for the coral(if that is what you had in mind).
My advice would be to stick with seashells and maybe some fossilized sharks teeth csroc

No rocks in Florida. Only fossils and coral if your lucky enough to find any. The Peace River in Polk county is a good place to find mammoth shark teeth and other fossils. I've not been there yet, but plan to soon. I think if your going to the beach you might can find a few rocks, but honestly, I've lived here all my life and I've never found anything good yet. Sorry. Now our beaches have some awesome seashells and you can find shark teeth at the beaches in Vence, south of St Petersburg (Tampa).
Best of luck and I hope you like it here!!

I guess I should have mentioned that we stay in Kissimmee every year - the Disney thing. We always try to hit both coasts for the beaches a couple of days, but mostly Daytona and Cocoa Beaches. I have a friend from work that will be down in St. Petersberg the same week, so maybe I will have an excuse to look him up while we are there! He is an avid rockhound also that I am trying to lure to this forum - maybe this will get him here! Thanks all for the information!

If you are in Kissimmee and go to Old Town, there is a store there called Black Market or something like that. Sometimes they have some cool stuff, but be warned, they are expensive!! They have some huge and I mean HUGE tree sections of petrified wood. They are just outside the store and very cool to see. I think there's like 10 or 15 of them. If you guys find anything cool, let me know as I'm always looking around here, just haven't found it yet. Tonja

Yeah Tonja - Old Town is our favorite hangout when we go - we've been coming down every spring for about 15 years now! I know the shop and have been in there many times. I'll definitly be checking it out better now that I have the rock fever - lol. I'll let you know if we find anything. I don't know what our schedule is going to be, but if we have the time to make it over your way it would be cool to meet you. I'll know more in a couple of weeks and will PM you. Thanks for the info! I just realized your location was Orlando. For some reason I was thinking you were over on the coast near Tampa. We could definitly try to meet each other - not often you get to put a real face to the name. If we can arrange something I'll even try to fit in a box of my Flint material to bring to you! I'll let you know!
