There anything occuring naturally in KS that's worth digging up? I used to find some follsils in the shale when I was a kid...are those polishable?

Not much in Kansas at all. At least for tumbling, great fossils, but that is about all. Most fossils in my area are in limestone, so no tumbling.

Hee hee, go to your local places that sell different kinds of rock, such as landscaping places, the guys who haul rock into parking lots, the cement companies etc. They usually sell rock by the ton. When I went to the place here in town, in SW NE, with my ice cream bucket, and picked thru the pile of river rocks and other interesting huge piles, they laughed when I asked how much they wanted for my bucketful. All I had to do was show them my finished tumbles. That was better than chipping rocks out of a rock & cement wall, as someone else on this site did. What a hoot! Actually, that was what gave me the idea... And, if you live in a small town, start asking around. You might be surprised what you come up with! Hey, we have no rocks here, I had to be creative.

LOL! Too funny karenfh! Had to laugh as you'd be surprised what you'll find even at your local restaurants flower beds, used for gravel. They buy & spread by the ton you get to saw, roll & lap for fun! And here I thought I was the only one digging through decorative stone piles!~! Too funny! Last

Kansas has some nice pet wood and clear quartz along HWY 70 in the dry washes from the colorado state line to I-135 S into Oklahoma. Betty and I found quite a few nice pieces of those items before we ran out of day light back in march when we went west to nevada, arizona, utah, colorado, texas, new mexico, kansas and back to oklahoma. say that 3 time real fast...LOL where in kansas are you located? Talk to you soon Steve
