Wondering if there is any material in the washes ?
Maybe going to Breckenridge and/or Vail area also. Any thoughts?

A good friend of mine is from Golden, Colorado. He finds me some pretty cool stuff out there. Found me some awesome mahogany obsidian among other things.

CO has some strict laws regarding rock/fossil hunting you may want to check into... i know that it's illegal to hunt road cuts and such...

I found some stuff in the Platte River. Just look for the gravel bars.

I am having difficulty finding state laws regarding such collecting for any state, let alone Colorado. Any ideas where to find these?

OK... I'm pretty sure that I read that in the Rock & Gem magazine but I might be mistaken thinking that it applied to rocks... It may only be vertebrate fossils that the law applies to. I'll try to find the article this weekend. I usually get good information from the Bureau of Land Management for the state I'm interested in. Here's a couple of links for more info and I'll keep searching for more specifics.... Grand Junction, Co rules say that any rock/mineral collecting is considered recreational if it will fit in a five gallon bucket... anything over that amount requires a mining permit. www.co.blm.gov/gjra/rockhounding.htmThis site features a rock hunting site guide.. www.peaktopeak.com/colorado/index.php3Dan

Dan, love you man!!! Thank you for the second link. I don't know how I missed it before. Sometime in the next couple of months I am headed out to a house my parents have North of Divide to give all my money to some friends and a couple of casinos in Cripple Creek. I have drawn blanks on rock hunting in that area before this. Now I not only know what to look for but the names of the mines so I can call and get permission to hunt their dump sites. Looks like I will have to tack on a extra day. For this I will promise that if you are the one to sit on a cactus next year you can count on me to be the one that will....go get Jamie for you.
