Hi everyone, great board. Very, very fun place to learn, and read up.
I read a post about Pichacho Hills NM, but I was wondering if there are any others places besides that in Las Cruces NM, where someone can go look around. The only thing I found of interest was a decent sized Mexican coconut, in of all places, my backyard. There must be more out there though, around the desert.
Any suggestions? Thanks a bunch! Eric

Hey Eric, welcome to the board. Earlier this year I was very close to having to move to Las Cruces, but at the last minute things changed. Anyway, On my last weekend trip down there I met Maryann and she took us out to Picacho Hill, and then to another place along 70 east of Las Cruces. She thought she was a rockhound until she met me! Now she has the fever real bad and I'm sure she can tell you some other places to find nice rocks. If she sees this post, she'll probably answer. If not, send her a message. Another member, Condor, lives in El Paso, and sandsman1 has his camper parked up at Elephant Butte, so you're in good company there.

Welcome to the board Eric. I am Condor. I haven't gotten with Maryann yet, but I hope to. She knows a few good areas to go and collect some stuff. Since you are nearby, next March 30th thru April 5th, the 2nd Woodward Ranch Blitz will take place. It is located in Alpine, TX. Go to the Members Photographs and check out the first thread title Woodward Ranch Blitz. Maybe you can make it. We can go together along with Stoner, and perhaps DesertDweller and her hubby. It's a lot of fun.

Hi guys, thx a lot for the good words and tips. I heard about the Picachio Hills location, so I might check that out before the houses start to pop up.
Thx guys!

Eric Sorry for delay getting on board. Gone on vacation for a couple of weeks and it's been nuts since. You can rockhound anywhere and everywhere here. I found a beautiful agate in the desert behind the QuickTrip store at Lohman and Foothils. I find agate and pet wood in the median of Roadrunner when I run there and I found a weird geode looking thing at the intersection of Northrise and Rinconada. Picacho is still my favorite though. Follow directions in the other post and that should get you there. You can also PM me if you want.
Good luck!! MaryAnn
