not in OK... I have a site west of Fort Worth for petrified wood, it sometimes has quartz crystals on it.

Sandy The mineralized wood is in the northeast Oklahoma hill country. It has chalcocite, carnotite, azurite, malachite and barite and is beautiful. Sorry, I don't have a specific location. Sure would like to go up there and look around sometime.

there are suppposed to be a couple of places close to sulfer to find pertrified wood and other agates and chalcedony. I have had some luck in the "dry" creek beds there...but due to all the rian, my guess is that thye are no longer accessable at this time. Betty and I found som nice chalcedony with agate in it last fall in sulfer/davis area. I have found Pet wood in driveway fill close to Calvin area as well, not sure where it originated from though. there is lots of barite here in our area of oklahoma, you just have to look long and hard for it. the rose rocks of oklahoma are few annd far between as well in the norman area, most of the ones you find now days are worn down and very hard to distinguish. In the Wetumka, Ok area, we have found lots of indian relics..such as arrow head pieces and parts, pottery piece etc....most of it is on private property and had it not been for the fact that Betty is realted to just aobut everyone in this town we would probably not be able to go hounding on the properties here. We have founbd TONS and TONS of seasshell fossils and misc sea creature fossils on her Aunts Farm on HWy 9 East of Wetumka by 5 miles miles. they are up on a fairly high hill range here and it does not seem possible that the oceans were that high at one time in the history of this area, but they were. We have an awesome collection of fossilized seas shells in red clay dirt along with plant life fossils. there is a place in Wewoka(about 15 miles from here) on section 9 ne 10 that is supposed to have barite, but it too is a private farm now and the report we located was from 1947. so we have not went looking in that area as of yet. Once it drys up again here, Betty's Aunt and Uncle are going to let us borrow thier escavator to go dig a nice spot on thier property to look for more fossils...I would like to dig a hole about 10 ' deep and 10' diameter to see if there are any burried fossils worth looking at. There is a spot in north western Oklhaoma that has the salt flats where you can dig for chrystals , but due to a recent military medical viles find, they have closed the area down for the public until they figure out how to locate all the viles that are burried in the area. Spikect(mark) and Betty and I were planning on meeting one weekend to go dig there, but those plans go rained out and splattered for this season anyways. there is a place in Arkansas called the "crater of diamonds" where you can dig in the freshly plowed dirt for rough diamonds. But due to the recent rains, I am not sure if it is open at this time. you can find it on the internet though. Good luck and please share any areas you might find. thanks Steve & Betty

I have some interesting stuff that we collected along the Illinois River near Tallequah, OK before I was really into rocks. Now that I am a little more edumacated I can differentiate between the specimens. We did find some wood and really cool looking black and white banded agates. An arrowhead piece too. It is worth a half day on the river to float down in some pretty country and occasionaly stop along the shore to go through the gravel bars. Watch out for Water Mocassins!
