We are going to New Mexico September 20. We will have 2 full days of rock hunting, possibly a 3rd day. Any areas you can think of in southern NM would be great. I know bf is wanting to see if he can find coconut geodes for cheap as that is his love, that and quartz crystals. I love rocks!!!!!!!!!!

I'll be spending a week in Las Cruces from Sept 9 - Sept 14. Too bad it's not the same time Sandy.
I too am hoping to come back with a load of goodies from the desert ;D

Hey guys, I will get some directions together for you and send you a PM. Hopefully Maryann will get on the board before you leave because she knows all the good places.
Sandy, if your bf wants geodes, then you'll have to take a ride to Deming, which is about 50 miles west of Las Cruces. There's a shop there that sells geodes the size of a large watermelon and bigger. I'll see if I can find the post where I posted pics of the shop. But beware of the guy who works there, he doesn't get many visitors and will talk your ears off(yours, not your boyfriends, he's very lonely!)
Oh, and get in touch with Condor, he lives in El Paso and you'll enjoy meeting him in person, he's a great guy.

I'd have to look at a map, but it seems like Rock Hound State Park is near Deming. If you're up to some climbing you might check that out. We went there in the middle of the summer and just about died from the heat. Now might be pretty nice.
