It's been several years since I've been there but I love the fee dig at the C.B Lambert Ranch in San Saba, Texas. C.B. has probably died by now as he was fairly elderly but his kids live there too and may still allow rock hunts for their spectacular crinoidal limestone which comes in several colors.....mel

Ms Agateheaven: I know how you feel about a rock hunt fix. I need one too! A friend in North Georgia called last night and ask me and the wife to go on a trip to Dale Hollow Lake while it is so low, to hunt for geodes and quartz replace crinoid stems. I will have to get up at 3:00 am Friday morning and drive 5 hours to Byrdstown Tenn to meet them. I can hardly wait. I am too excited and probally will not sleep much Thursday night. So yes, I need a fix too. Still Diggin' 'n Tha Dirt, Frank (GaRock)

Thanks all, Id love to go to the alibates but thats up in the panhandle from me..im almost dead center of texas. San Saba is still alittle to far but ill keep it in mind. I guess ill be creek hopping looking for the odd ball rock or maybe flint artifacts. I found some intresting rocks in a gravel pit last year they were black and had white crystal bands..almost looked like candy and nearly polished. I'll see if i can find em and post a pic. I'v also been looking at geological reports...lol...yeah like thats gonna help me.

Say,please don't think I am nuts......even tho I am.........have you tried collecting kaliche to polish?I used to live close to Amarillo and we had buckeye kaliche there and it made some very attractive cabs.If I can find some of my kaliche cabs I'll post a photo or 2 if your finding it hard to believe.

Most the kaliche around here is crumbly or surfacing a road. I have collected oolitic limestone down in south Texas. I 'd love to see your work! Maybe it will give me an idea of what to look for! thanks Brad

I did notice there was nothing in Tom Green or next to it. Consider yourself lucky though, just try finding rock collecting areas in southern Saskatchewan where I live. No information anyhwere. And you are very welcome

Llano has Llanite in the road cuts north of town.
Junction has some red&green&brown striped agate at the city park. I also found a honey colored agate with white fortification bands there.
Between Fort Stockton and Pecos along the Pecos River, there are kinds of agates.
