striped like the botswanas - banjo had a pic a good while back of some fortification agate with white stripes he found. the lake superiors would be fortification agates too as they have those stripes. now i need to go back and look at the cabojohn - did it have stripes in it?

Greetings All, when i read it linna said its a thunderegg showing fortification agate this might be a dumb question to some but what is ( fortification agate ) ? The way I've heard it described is that the patterns of fortification agate look like castle walls or battlements seen from afar. WilliamC

Not a dumb question at all. Here's the explaination in regards to Lake Superior Agates. I don't really see the banding in that pic that's on the stoneage site that would fit what I've read as being "fortification agates". The most common type of Lake Superior Agate is the fortification agate. It's bands connect to each other like the walls of a fort which is where the name came from. Common subtypes of the fortification agate are the parallel-banded, onyx-fortification or water-level agate. These stones have straight parellel bands over all or part of the stone.
