hi all - kim from the mississippi delta here - age 43 with 2 grey hairs that i'm tempted to snatch out - i deserve more and have certainly given more ;D. retired as a mental health counselor 7 yrs ago and went into business with my husband. he goes to work daily and i pop in and out much to his dismay. we have a beautiful 5 y/o daughter from ivf (test tube baby). we have a zoo like riverotter: 2 horses, 4 goats, 2 rabbits, 5 dogs, and 3 cats. all but one of those were unintentional rescue missions - i'm a sucker for an unloved pet. here's my latest beautiful boy that had every rib showing - he was hunting rabbits on our property because he was starving, fleas, ticks, heartworms (had last treatment 3 wks ago), no shots for 3 yrs. he sleeps on the couch now and goes almost everywhere i go and if he doesn't he hollers until i get back. bruno my favorite rock is whatever has made it to polish! kim

Oh Kim! He's adorable!! I would have had to take him in also. Two of my dogs are rescue dogs also. The one dog I swear is a lab/basset mix. Lab body and little short legs like a basset. Anyway, he showed up one day out of the blue. Looks like he had taken a dive out of the back of a moving vehicle. He had road rash real bad. His tail is broken in 3 places, he has half an ear and a scar where a raccoon nearly bit off the end of his nose. We named him Lucky. I swear the dog has nine lives!

bruno's adorable.
i hope he doesn't have anxiety to go along with his hollering. my miniature pinscher had separation anxiety real bad even though i work out of my house and i'm only gone about an hour a day AND she has three other dogs to play with. she got so bad that i finally asked the vet to medicate her.
and lo and behold, there's actually a drug out there to help. its called Clomicalm and it really works.
i don't know what we would have done without it. i make it a habit to take one of the dogs with me when i go into town (weather here permitting), and even while waiting for me to just run into an office to exchange completed records for the incomplete, she would go crazy--screaming and barking and voiding all over (thank God for vinyl truck seats). but the drug worked.
i don't like to use unnecessary drugs on my dogs. they're my family, not a houseful of experiments, but this stuff really worked.

p.s. just in case anyone's wondering, i AM NOT a drug company shill!

i might have to look into that. i left him with my husband while i went to walmart and even with someone with him he kept hollering for me. my husband kept calling me so i could hear it. the lady at the bank drive-thru said she was going to get some dog treats to give him when we come as he's always with me.

Now that is one pitiful face! I can just imagine the look you get when you head out the door without him! LOL! He is cute as can be. His ears look almost as long as his legs. What is he? Looks like he has some beagle and basset hound in him.
My Max is part blue heeler, rott, and spaniel. I stole him. His owner went off to Oklahome for his grandmother's funeral and left him chained to a tree - no food, no water and hot as hell. I fed and watered him for 2 days, then said to heck with this, I'm takin' this little guy home. He was maybe 6 to 8 weeks old. I couldn't believe somebody would do that to a sweet little puppy. Turned out the preacher (the owner was the youth pastor) two doors down was suppose to be feeding and watering him, but he forgot.
Max is a great dog. He's 6 now and goes almost everywhere with me. But, I can leave him home by himself and he just curls up on the sofa or bed and takes a nap. Since I live in an RV park, he can't run free like he used to when I had a fenced yard, but he's okay being on a chain outside as long as he has a patch of sunlight to snooze in. His favorite thing is chasing golf balls. We go out several times a day and play doggie golf. I would post a pic of him, but he's curled up in the recliner taking a snooze and would probably cop an attitude if I woke him up to take a pic. I am so glad he is gracious enough to allow me to live in his house! LOL!

llana, he's a full blooded basset hound. his original owner died 4 yrs ago from lyme disease as did some of the other dogs but he and a sister went to the shelter. the girl that adopted him started staying with her boyfriend and was never home anymore. because he had a record from the shelter i was able to get info on him when i took him. we're lucky he chose our yard to hunt or we might not have found him!

Basset hounds are pretty neat dogs. I love their long ears and coloring. And, boy, can they howl, as you are well aware of. LOL!
I just don't understand how someone can get a pet and then not take care of properly and love them. Just makes me sick to see an animal, any animal, mistreated.

Baby goats are the cutiest!! I always feel kinda sorry for city folk that have never had the pleasure of sitting and just watching baby goats frolic around. They are so funny! The only problem is they grow into big goats! I feed for a couple that has about 30 nannies, 8 billies, 3 horses, 3 dogs, and 2 cats. Feeding the goats is a real challenge. I have to run to shut the gate before they get into the feeding area so that I don't get swarmed by them. The nannies are worse than the billies, but, boy, do those billies stink! Thank goodness I only have to feed for them a couple of times a year when they go on vacation!

We bought a nanny last year that had two billy babies. My husband named them Billy Bob and Billy Ray. Billy Bob he castrated. Billy Ray he did not. And omg does he stink!!!! EEwww! You can be 40 feet from him and still smell him!

yes my billy is one nasty, stinky boy. i never take my eyes off him if i'm in the pen. i was bent over outside the pen one day and "crash" he like to have knocked himself silly trying to butt me on my bean head. glad that little fantasy of his didn't pan out!

that little bugger cut her hair last weds with some scissors that are the kid kind that barely cut paper. her reasoning - she wanted it longer! whoops. she cried and cried saying people would say she looked stupid so i told her that's why we let people who have been to school and know how to cut hair cut our hair. yeah, that's it! her answer - but mom i know how to cut hair now. i have hidden those scissors and today i found all the hair hidden under a bed. ;D
