Hi All, My name is Jack Geerlings and I live in the far south of New Zealand. I am a dairyfarmer, mostly retired now and have a love for the land..what's on it and under it. I have had a hunkering for stones for a long time , but not had the time to follow this great hobby until i retired from active farming. 2 of our sons are now running the show which leaves me enough time on my hands to rock and roll. There is quite a variety of rocks to be found here on the beaches and in the rivers. I have bought one lortone 6lbs tumbler and borrowed a double tumbler..brand unknown, but it works..fulltime I only bought my tumbler last december and still feel very new . Thanks to this great site I have learned a lot and try to follow all the usefull hints. There are times that the stones turn out rather dull and sometimes it can be fixed by 4 days in soap.. I use a bar of sunlight soap. Tonights lot came out pretty good , whic was a mix of beach stones futher north than my normal area.and some others as many in the first grit were no good to carry further yet. I still hope to get another tumbler and I will have to return the borrowed one one of these days. I use one for polishing and soap only. I also invested in a second hand big slabsaw 24" blade. And I managed to get a diamond and Pacific flatlap vibrator , imported from the US of A. With my wife I look after a big garden and she is the one with the good eyes for colour as I am colourblind So one day we hope to make something pretty with all those pretty stones . Stones to be found nearby are agate, sapphire, grossular-garnets petrified wood etc etc Can some-one tell me how to get a picture attached? I will post it as soon as I have mastered thatone haha. Greetings Jack

Hi Jack, welcome to the board and congradulations on your retirement. I still have about 7 yrs. before I can retire but I am looking forward to it. If you want to post pictures on the board I would suggest that you go to photobucket.com and become a member. It's a free picture hosting service and very easy to use. Once you get your photo uploaded to photobucket you can post the url in your message and the photo will appear in place of the text that you put in the message. As your writing your message you will notice two rows of buttons to the right of where it says "Add Tags". Where ever you want your picture to appear in your message just hit the icon on the second row, 4th icon to the right. Like this . Replace the URL in the middle with the URL address under your photo over on the photobucket site by copying and pasteing. It's easier if you open two browser windows so that you can be on the photobucket site and this site at the same time. Hope this helps and have fun on the board. Everybody here is very pleasant and helpful. Bob

Hey Jack! Welcome to the RTH site, great place huh? You are deep south..hehe, probably starting winter now isn't it? Bob pretty much nailed the pic posting but if you still have trouble speak up, most all of us had fits posting our first pics. Or, if you don't have a place on the net to link to like photo bucket, you are welcome to send them to my e-mail addy and I can put them up for you. Again, welcome & talk to you later, Don from Ohio

Hey Jack, are you sure you are doing a copy and paste of the URL. There are 3 things to chose from under your pictures at photobucket. I believe the URL is the first one.

A bunch of great rocks, Jack! Also, nice to meet ya'! Now, if you want to post those pics on the Member's photographs forum, you just click on the 4th little square on the bottom row, the image icon, then delete URL between the brackets and paste in the URL of your pics and you get this It took several tries before I got it right and I am so proud to be able to tell someone else how to do it! ;D Now I gotta go login! llana (from the Great State of Texas)

Llana - I'm so jealous! Those are beautiful!! I hope someday I can get a batch like that...
Jack - New Zealand, WOW!! That's one of my dream countries to visit and/or live in - the other is Canada. My Grandma toured most of the world, and said that New Zealand was the most beautiful country she had ever seen.
Lucky you! Please take pictures of your country and post them. Please?
