Showing my ignorance here!
Is that beach an ocean beach or a lake beach? those sure look like snow capped mountains in the back ground, is the water cold?
Mining for gold on a beach Too cool! If I ever get rich enough to travel to far away places, I'm so there!

Hi llana , thanks for your question. I suppose you could call it an ocean beach , there is an island south of us called Stewart island and after that a few very small ones and then......... Antarctica. We do get penguins on several beaches and seals and if you are lucky you could spot a whale or dolphins. Those mountains are from a very rugged region where no-one lives called Fiordland. As it is wintertime here now you are bound to see snow on them. We were lucky at the beach with the shelter and sunshine, a great mild day. The water is quite cold and I have been swimming in it only once in the 6 years I live here in the south. Ha , I found some fotos of the trip we made late november when I went looking for a tumbler and rocksaw up in the north island, about 1400 km or 875 miles away.Alos went to see my sister for her birthday in Hastings near Napier, site of a Big eartquake in 1931 which uplifted the seafloor by a few meters. Harbour gone and now cows graze there. Well , enough talk, time for action I hope this is enough for now Jack

Very pretty deepsouth. I've always wanted to see NZ and since the LOTR movies I want to see it even more. Your pics just reinforce it!! Thanks for posting them.

Dang, Jack, would you stop posting all these pictures! You are just killin' me! ;D Only kidding about posting the pics, ya' know! They are truly wonderful and since I will probably never get to NZ to see the sights for myself, I enjoy them. It really is neat seeing what other parts of the world look like from one that actually lives there rather than the travel posters.
Hmm, I could post some pics of rocks, cactus, cedar and mesquite trees we have where I live and really make you jealous! ;D

Black swans are sooo beautiful, but they are MEAN. I tried to feed one at a big hotel years ago where they were kept in a big fountain. Son of a gun chased me all the way back into the lobby!

The black swans in NZ are originaly Australian Black swans , introduced into NZ and also naturaly arriving from Australia which is about 2 timezones away . Here is a link to some interesting reading. www.nzbirds.com/BlackSwan.htmlJack

Hey-have enjoyed this site so much - had to login- 62 yr old grandfather of 2 -looking for a great hobby-found it!! I have learned a lot since starting: 1. garbage in-garbage out(always prepare the stones before tumbling--No pits-No fractures!! 2. de-gas with!! Ta Da...table salt. 3. always add 1000 grit stage for safety. 4. live alone and live longer.

Forgot.. 5. Add egg white to the polish stage-you will be surprized at the results.. 6. If you run the 60 grit stage for 25 days straight-you can skip the 220 stage. 7. If you think that there is enough maynoise in the potato salad-add a little more..
