Hi! I'm brand new to the site. My name is Stephanie and I'm from Minnesota. I've been collecting rocks since I was small and still use the Thumler's Tumbler I got in the 70's. Does anyone else have one of these? I'm having trouble with my polish cycle. My rocks gets this white residue all over them and it's not easy to get off. Any ideas? Thanks-

Hey Stephanie, welcome aboard. Tons of great info here and lots of crazy people. We have fun and learn alot.
I always wash my rocks with either Cascade or Ivory soap shavings when they come out of polish. Sometimes that doesn't do it and I have to scrub each one individually with a brush! But now that I am getting more particular and don't move rocks to the polish stage unless all the cracks and crevices have been ground out, I rarely have to scrub with a brush. Takes a lot longer to get the finished product, but well worth it.

Hi Stephanie, Stick with us, kid. Or maybe I should say "them". Lot of really knowledgeable people here who produce some incredible results. And a lot of nut cases that mostly just want to learn and play at the same time. There's not a smiley for "I'm holding my hand up" but it would be here ** if there were. See ya on the boards,

Hi Stephanie Welcome to this place. You will finds lots of good info and friendly, helpful people people. After you finish your polish cycle, try a little soap (I use Borax) for a few hours or even a day and see if it helps get rid of the residue. Again, welcome.

Welcome aboard Stephanie, I agree with the borax thing. I always run my rocks on a borax and water cycle when I change to another size grit. It does a great job of cleaning up the rocks, pellets and tumbler all at the same time.

You guys rock! Get it? Of course you do. The Borax worked great. I put Borax in the barrel with a bunch of flannel fabric strips and the pellets. Cleaned up nice. Poll question for you guys- What's the strangest thing you put in your polisher?

Hey Steph, the flannel strips in the barrel is a great idea. "Whats the strangest thing we ever put in our polisher?" That may be for another board. ;D
