Hi, I am new to rock tumbling but I have been reading the boards on grit. I don't understand all the different ways, whys etc etc on using the different grits. I see some will say 10 day in 60/90, 5 days in 220, 7 days in 600 and some special polish Titanium Oxide. I have just used what came in my kit. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Gracie, welcome to the board. I hope I can answer your question for you. If not someone else will. Grit is the powder that came with your kit. It is graded by numbers. The smaller the number the coarser the grit. Of coarse you start out with a coarce grit to shape your rough rocks and take all the sharp edges off. This usually takes 1 to 3 weeks, maybe more depending on the hardness and roughness of your rocks. Thats why the times you see posted are not always the same. After the coarse grit you go to a finer grit for each stage until the rocks are so smooth that you can go to a polish. On the rock tumbling home page there is a very good instuctional artical written by Andy, the moderator of this board. Hope I was of some help. Feel free to come back and ask anything that is on your mind. There is always someone here to help. We have a lot of fun too!
Regards, Bob
