Hi,
I just retired from teaching (35 years) and now have time to try all the things I put off.
Got a steal of a deal the other day - rock slab saw, grinder/polisher, vibrating lap polisher, a tumbler and 200 pounds of various rocks for $200.
Going to try my hand at polishing and whatever else I can learn.
Live in Ontario Canada up by Georgian Bay.
One thing I am amazed at is some of the work I have seen posted on this board. The pictures are inspiring - I hope some day to be able to create similar results.

Hi Bill and welcome to the board,
You have found the best place on the net for first hand info on tumbling and all other aspects lapidary. You will soon find out how welcoming and friendly the members can be. I am sure you will find answers to all your question you may have here.
Man, you really came across a great deal! All that for $200. WoW! Even without the motors, that is one hell of a bargain.
One thing you will soon discover is the members like photos and lots of them. LOL Hope you have a camera... ;D
Once again Welcome,

hi bill and welcome ---time to have some fun huh hahaha i gotta tell ya everyone here is very helpfull and most of all friendly so jump in when ya have a question someone will prob be able to help --you asked about motor size for your new grinder and saw and by the way very VERY good deal you got there you couldent get one of those machines for 200.00 unless you lucked out,, but any way all my motors are 1/3 horse 1725 rpms and if you have a second hand store near you or on trash day throw the tools in the car and look for old washing machines and flip them and check the plate on the motor if its at least 1725 rpms and prob 1/4 hp you can use them for your saw and grinder 1/3 or 1/2hp is better but you can at least get started till you find the right deal and pulleys are usually 2 or 2-1/2 inch on the motor shaft ---ok enuff rambling seeya ---john

Hello and welcome ...
Okay ... just how long did you have to point the gun at the individual to get them down to 200.00?
Holy Cow! That is amazing. Talk about being at the right place at the right time!
You lucky duck!
Have a great day and enjot the forum!
