Hi everyone,
I came across this site after digging out my tumbler from where it had been stored way too long. Its not like I didn't have a daily reminder of the backlog of rocks to be worked, the breezeway is loaded with them, but the last few years have been busy ones. I have learned to take life a little slower now, actually it was an enforced lesson from my body.
Anyway, the tumbler is rolling away in the laundry room but I already know I need a bigger one or more of them. I need to dig out the flat lap also and get to cutting up some the rock and grinding them into interesting shapes. The posts here have inspired me to maybe try drilling holes in some of them.
My backlog comes from years of collecting rock with my kids, mostly in the Cascade Mountains of western Washington but some came from Oregon, Idaho, and Montana. Our last big trip was to Montana, where we found some saphires, that was when my youngest was fifteen, more than a decade ago now. So, while I was laying in bed recovering, the rocks were calling from the breezeway; reminding me of all those great trips and if I wouldn't please get them out of the way. Or, maybe that was my wife pleading with me to do something with them, funny what pain killers will do to you.
I think I should sell some of them, so I will do a catalog and make the rounds of the local rock shows this spring and let someone else work with them. Lord knows, I might not get to them all.
Anyway, that is a little about why I have showed up on this forum. Look forward to posting some pictures. And yes, I plan on doing some more rock collecting, even though I have more than enough, I have been digging in the gravel bar in the river a mile from my home. Now that I have started I just can 't help myself, so I will post some trip stories and picutre.
The real name is Rand but since I have worked in the computer industry for 25 years, I kind of liked the name silicon glass, sio4; and it fit the forum.
