I got looking at the Visitors and Members board and realized that I hadn't introduced myself and I have been a member since early January this year.
Hi everyone, my name is Tami I live in Dodge City, KS. I work at home taking care of my disabled sister, do computer work for my parents insurance angency, and I often take my grandfather, who is in the nursing home with Alzheimer's and bladder cancer, to his doctor appointments.
My first introduction into rock tumbling was when I was a kid and my parents got us a toy tumbler for Christmas one year. My family has always been the type that looks for neat rocks and pick them up for a collection, our favorite place to find rocks was on our vacations to Colorado. Last year I bought a toy rock tumbler and realized that it was really too small and a few months later I bought a Lortone 3A and have been very happy with it since I got it. I am hoping to pass this hobbby bug on to my nephew this year when I give him my old toy tumbler. Tami

Hi Tami, You have your hands full with what life has dealt you. I'm sorry to hear about your father, it's a long tough road with Alzheimer's. It's good to have a nice addicting hobby like tumbling to be able to relax with. Did I say relax .... well, you know what I mean *smile*. I'm glad you found this forum when you did, I really enjoy looking at the pics of the things you've made.

We (me and the kids) are new to rock hunting. We took a trip to our local rock and mineral museum here in North West Georgia, about an hour north westish of Atlanta. It brougth back memories of my Dad and his Lapidary equipment. So we did some research and found this guy here in Georgia who has access to property to let people look for Georgia Amethyst. It was a great day and we loved it. Although, I took 5 kids with me from 11 down to 1, and it was fun, I might just go with me and my wife next time...lol We did find some good pieces though Guy I am originally from NorthWest Canada, up near the Yukon and we had agate, and some other semi to precious stone up there but I don't remember what it was all those years ago, I do remember the agate though. I remember my Dad tumbling for 6 weeks and I thought that was forever....*smile* G

Sounds like my story, except I am tumbling my first load in my toy tumbler. It is in my room and I use the noise to help me sleep! LOL Kind of like white noise.
