Hey Everyone! My name is Guy Schafer, I am originally from Canada, a small northern British Columbia town called Fort St. John. My Dad bought Lap equipment when I was a kid and I remember going on some rock hunting trips with him and my brothers, the finding, the tumbling, the cutting, the polishing, the constructing of jewlery etc. Recently my kids and wife and I went to a local mineral and rock museum here in Georgia where we live, (about an hour north westish of Atlanta. It brought back all these memories and I got on google, found this rock board, wrote a message to a local lady, she told me about a local (3 hours away) guy who has an amethyst pit, and well the rest is history. We went on our first dig, me and the 5 kids, and had a great day....was grueling work, but awesome. So now comes the tumblers and et all but I couldn't be happier. Am always open to new locations for rock digs in our travels...and will keep in touch here. Guy My wife Lisa teaches high school, I am a home schooling Father, we have five kids, daughter 11, son 9, daughter 6, son 4 and daughter 1. I run an internet based business. Rock on!

Hi Guy, welcome aboard. You found the right place - we all have a passion for rocks! cookie3rocks is in Georgia and she sent me some awesome quartz she found in the creek behind her house. Some of it was rutilated quartz. Since I'm not in Georgia don't know a thing about rocks there, but I bet cookie can give ya' some info. Alot of us have discovered we have some pretty nice driveway gravel so it's worth a try to toss in a handful of that. You just never know what lies beneath all the dirt and yuck on a rock! llana

Hi Guy, Welcome to the forum. Good to see you getting in to things that can involve your kids and introduce them to nature as well. Good point Llana, you never know what's in the local rock so take a stroll through a plain old gravel pit and see what you find. I love my local rock and can hardly wait until the snow is gone so I can go out again.
Happy Tumbling

Thanks for the kind words, it's exciting though, and you are right, it does give one pause to consider more closely the world in which we live, it's more than just dirt and concrete, even in our driveways. I remember finding an agate in our driveway stone and I never looked at it the same way again! Question: How do you get that little tag line at the end of your posts?!
