Hi Wanda, welcome to our little home for rockhounds!
Got to agree about the mess - esp. if one lives in a small place and it's too cold to get outside. But, it's worth it when you take those beauties out of polish!
Thank goodness I live alone, except for Max, my 4 legged child. He doesn't care if the place is a wreck as long as there is room for him to snooze on the sofa. llana

;D Hey Everybody! I am new here and I figured I had better introduce myself. My real name is Kari and I'm in California right outside of San Francisco. Rocks have been an intrest of mine for so long and I finally got a rock tumbler and I can't wait to start. I collected a bunch of Poppy Jasper as well as some rocks I have not name for but they are unique. I am in need of "beginners" assistance so I hope I came to the right place. Thanks for having me folks.

Hi Kari, welcome. You have come to the right place! What kind of tumbler do you have? It's pretty easy to get started. Just put the rocks in the tumbler, add the grit and a bit of borax and let 'er roll. The hardest part is having the patience it takes to wait for the rocks to be ready to move to 220 grit! Sometimes it takes weeks, actually usually it take weeks! But if you move them forward too soon, you won't be as happy with the finished result. I just loaded a tumbler yesterday with a bunch of do-overs. Don't be afraid to ask any question you have. There's somebody here that can answer it. I have a few pieces of Poppy Jasper in a tumbler now. It's looking pretty good, but has a way to go before it's finished. You are lucky to live somewhere you can collect neat rocks, rather than having to buy them! llana
