Hi Kari, Welcome to the forum and the addicting world of tumbling rocks. Sorry can't help you with "Poppy Jasper" but I'm sure someone will come along who can.

Hi Kari. Welcome to the board. Good to have another Calif rockhound. Poppy jasper is found in Morgan Hill, just south of San Jose. Though it is now scarce, it can still be found. I bought some red and yellow poppy jasper from a local rock shop, but earlier this year I found a big piece of black/grey/white poppy jasper at Anderson Dam in Morgan Hill. What part of Ca do you live?
Again, welcome Ed

Hey Ed and Kari, my son's ex had a friend that told me that she went somewhere on the fault line around there and collected some really great stuff. Have you ever heard of such a thing? My son lives in Roseville, but it's been too hard for me to fly so I havn't been there for a while. I think one winter my wife and I will have to take a road trip and drive out with the motorhome. Spend the whole winter looking for rocks!

Hi Kari,
Welcome to the board. I live in Felton, CA (near Santa Cruz).
As Stoner mentioned, Poppy Jasper is or was found near Morgan Hill, CA. There's a rockshop in San Jose that has or had some Poppy Jasper. I wanted to get some and polish it up for one of my analysts who lives in Morgan Hill. But, the rockshop wanted $8/pound.
Ron, I think everyone in California lives on or pretty close to a faultline. The 1989 quake happened about 5 miles from my house.
The funny thing is that quakes don't do much for me, I guess I am just used to them. When the 1989 quake hit, I was waiting for my wife to pick me up. After the quake, my biggest concern was... is the World Series still on? I didn't realize until later the quake was quite large and caused substantial damage in some spots. The earth shakes then stops. But, some friends who did not grow up in the area got petrified by a quake. Said he was moving back to Nebraska. Nebraska has tornadoes but you can see them coming. Earthquakes are always a surprise.
