Just found this site and am excited to start learning more about rockhounding and tumbling. Got the family one for Christmas and hope we can all enjoy it.
Being from Utah, I've always been mesmerized by geology. I've always "looked down" on hikes and always seem to come home w/ pockets full. Kids now bring home stuff all the time.
Have 3 kids, 7,4,3. We love to camp and fish.
Any advice on local places near SLC would be appreciated.
take care,
Gaetz

Welcome to the board. You live in a great place for rockhounding. The best advice is to find a book on Utah rockhounding and go from there.

Hi Gaetz, welcome to the forum. Can't help you with rockhounding in Utah but you could try to goggle it and see what you get. "rockhounding in utah" "common utah rocks" Stuff like that might lead you in the right direction. Take a few minutes and get registered so you can get your name in lights. LOL Ok, it just turns yellow but it's cool anyway.

Rosebud-
Loved the story on your Christmas present. So do you find the agates on the shores of Superior, or just anywhere close? They look really cool. I used to live in the upper midwest (Northern Iowa and Wisc. playing ice hockey) and travelled to the "iron range" many times (Hibbing). Will never forget going up the coast to play in Thunder Bay....Beautiful country.
Anyway, take care and enjoy the new presents. Hope I can come up to your neck of the woods again.
