Can the materials used as grits and polishers be found in the market for other uses, such as in manufacturing? I'm helping out my daughter with a small tumbling kit she got for Xmas from my cousin who lives in the US, but here in my country, Honduras, you can't find stores that sell crafts and hobby stuff. Maybe I could find these chemicals being sold for other purposes.....??

Hey AM, the silicon carbide grits are often used in sandblasting operations or descaling operations. Cerium Oxide is a polish that is commonly used to polish regular glass as well as rocks. Hope this helps.

welcome amateurdadhonduras!!
this site seems to get more global each day!! and i think that is a good thing.
yes, there must be local metal finishing places you can get the grit from?
if not, let me know, we can work out something from the USA,

Welcome AM! (sorry, my fingers can't do the whole title ;D) There are so many places in the US you can order from, but I don't have a clue what would be more convinient or less costly. Do a "Google" search and see what you can find. Good Luck and Welcome!

Surely there are rock hounds in the honduras, or rock collectors. Is there a Honduran search engine you can use exclusively for your country.

I wanted to joke with you that grits are readily available in the Southern US at the grocery store.... hominy grits that is a staple breakfast food.
