Hello everyone, I'm new to this board. I have always had a fasination about rocks. As a kid I went to North Carolina ruby mines with my fokes. I have really gotten into rocks, minerals and fossils since I went to the big Denver show in September 2004. I have 3 tumblers a 10" rock saw and a 15" vibrating lap I made for geodes and slabs. Geodes are my favorite. We live in Denver and I have joined 3 rock and mineral societies here. Can't wait till fieldtrip time.
Now I have 2 boys (11 & 14) and we are about to go to Utah to collect. I'm still trying to figure out exactly where we will collect. I have the Utah Gem Trails book for starters.
If any of you have directions to collecting sites near Moab or Nephi I would greatly appreciate getting a copy of them.
I'm married to a non-rock nut. The only rocks she like is diamonds. lol. I'm an environmental engineer and work for a consulting firm in Denver, CO. We clean up gas stations that have had releases.
Well I just wanted to say hello to everyone.

Welcome to the board, Dale. I think that over time you will fine a wealth of information here.
I am a geologist who has done the same type of consulting work for the last 33 years that you are doing.
Let us know how your rock hunting goes and what you are tumbling that you found!

Welcome to the forum Dale. I found a beautiful geode down by Castle Rock many years ago. You've got some beautiful stones out there. Good luck with your trip.
By the way ... "You Go Dad" I think it's great that you're introducing your kids to rock hounding. It's a great way to get them out into nature and to spend quality time together.

Hey Banjo;
I'm still trying to figure out the most economical pollish. I've bought aluminum oxide in bulk but it doesn't give me a good. I guess I will use it between my 500 grit and a different pollish. I guess I will have to find a supplier for Tin Oxide that doesn't charge $10+ a pound.
And my Utah trip was awsome.

Welcome to the forum. Now TEXT really am a newbie. I live in a little apartment and get my rocks from the driveway and local Lowes!
Anyway, I have learned so much reading the information here and going to websites recommended here. I am like the fat dietician... I know what to do now, I just need to do some of it.
