Hi, my name is Joe. I am a rock addict. This started when I was a child and always picked up rocks. It hasn't ended yet. I can't go anywhere without looking for a good rock or two. Half the things that are mentioned in the "You know you're a rockhound when..." thread are things I already do, and the rest of them sound like good ideas to me. I've wanted a tumbler since I was a kid, but it never happened. I bought a Lortone 33b a few months ago and I love it. I saw MY first polished rocks about 2 weeks ago and I feel like a kid again! This is so cool! Then I started reading the posts here and I took a closer look at my treasures. Cracks here, holes there. Damn. I have to learn more about this. So I have been reading posts and old posts and learning more than I imagined. Of course my second batch hasn't come out of rough yet because I'm not happy with the grind. A C/E 3lb. unit snuck in here somehow after reading all about the problems with it. $24.00 just can't be beat. It's like I read all your posts and got a jolt of experience in tumbling. That and instructions on how to become experienced. This forum is so cool. Anyway, you're not helping at all when it comes to my rock addiction but I'm really glad you all are here. Thanx, Joe

Hi Joe, Welcome to the forum. You've definitely come to the right place for those with the rock addiction. Don't look for a cure here though, you won't find it. *smile* Only thing you find here is stuff that just encourages it.

Hi. Thanx for the welcome. It feels comfortable here. Lilllejimie I do imagine all those rocks in Colorado. It's just that most of the rocks I find locally are crumbly sandstone. I think my part of Colo. is where all the driveway gravel comes from! I don't really know places where you can just go in with a hammer and tools and start loading up rock. If anyone does know of such places (or how to find them without getting taken away by a sheriff's deputy for trying to remove the state heritage in small chunks) in N. Colo. please let me know. This rock tumbling was supposed to be a slow, part time sort of hobby that didn't take up a whole lot of time. So why am I spending so much time learning about rocks and loving it? I surrender.

Welcome Joe... you are on your way I see: two tumblers already. Next, you will want a grinder, then you will want a saw, then anuther bigger tumbler, then a double-barreled one for PP and polish. It never ends. ed

Hi all. Yes, this is becoming a bigger problem fast. I found myself in Harbor Freight today, you know they have a tile saw for 49.00. I held back from that (I'll never buy anything expensive without reading about it here first) but I fell for some "diamond" bits for my drill. Considering how cheap they were I'm not too sure if I expect too much but hell, a few weeks ago it never occured to me that you could drill or shape rock like this. I'm getting too psyched up over this! Oh the rocky path I am following:~}

No digital camera yet but I can see I'm gonna want one soon. The trouble is on the one hand is a camera, and on the other hand is more tumbling rough. I only get a small retirement check each month so I need to budget this in fast... LOL, the way I handle money this hobby is gonna be trouble! Oh well, I asked for this. Joe
