My name is Walrus, not kidding been stuck with the moniker for years.
Long time rennie and rockhound, lost all my marbles years ago and just have rocks in the head, under the bed, in the lawn, on the kitchen counter, etc etc etc etc.
am looking for and i think i found a great idea and information exchange. I just took the leap from tumbling to facet/ cabbing by buying a workshop from an older man who was getting out for personal reasons.
also I am a leather crafter and recreator for pirate shows and do the blackpowder and fight scenes as well as sell stuff at shows (trades just as often)
I have visited and shopped, traded and sold / bought from lists of vendors from franklin nc to central florida,(my usual haunts) and would love to make mroe contacts and new friends that have as much of a love of the lapidary as me and my Lovely lady do (shes cutting cabs as I type) so thats me in a geode

Hi Walrus, Welcome to the forum. There's definitely LOTS here who have a love of rocks and lapidary so you've found the right place.

welcome Walrus, I'm new to this board also, but I'm new to the hobby. Have been reading here for a long time and know there is much shared information and kindness. A great bright light on a sometimes gray day. Sal (rt)

have been doing a lot of freeform cabs, between doctor appts and work. my lady is getting good as well. will get some pics of that up,, thanks,, i love doing ice sculptures and food as well. theres nothing like weilding a chainsaw in a freezer on a hot june day and having the district inspector for holiday inn come waltzing in for a flag inspection (big one about keeping franchise) and walking right back out into the bar for a drink.

well for lessons, uhhh more on the collecting end and where from there to go, how much to call enough(never) and one major hint, make sure your other half is as much a rockhoud as you are. rock shop widows are not always happy about it. LOL
uhh,, the faceting end is really new to me, i have done cabs for some time and am trying the facet end,. wow tough. very very ;precise and slow in compare to a multi wheel pixie or other combi cabbing machine.
i can however give great advice on sewing and leatherworking as well as culinary hints tips and tricks.
