Just thought I would re-introduce myself to the newer crowd. I joined the website a long time ago - I think I am member 76 or something like that. Was tumbling pretty actively, then life took a few unexpected turns. Tumblers went quiet. Well, they're about to fire up again. I went on my first official field trip with the local rock club over the 4th of July weekend and found tons of material. I can feel the rock flame starting to burn again. I've been lurking, watching and listening and you are a great group for learnings and support. I probably won't speak much, but you can know I'm around. See ya Janine

Hey J, I remember when you joined (that doesn't happen very often anymore!). The J9 screen name was such a clever variation on your name.
Hope things are going better for you now, and welcome back.

Hi Janine, Sorry that life took the twists and turns that shut the tumblers down, hope it's all much better for you now. Glad to have you back on the board and happy to meet you.

Thanks for the welcome. You sure know how to make a gal feel at home.
Kim - we were hunting around Austin Nevada and came home with flourite, daisy agate, snakeskin agate, red jasper and airy blue agate. The snakeskin agate is especially cool. I'll try to post pictures.
I would highly recommend people new to rockhounding to latch on to the local club. The people are so helpful. They know all the great spots and how to find what's out there.

Stefan - how about an old member getting older? Sending my youngest off to high school this year was a real eye opener.
Hi Duckbean - thanks for the welcome. The flourite was from a mine tailings spot. Lots of solid green, some purple with white and a few pieces with the green/purple/while stripes. Most of it is pretty low grade (lots of fragmenting) but there are some that might polish with a polisher. Not sure exactly what I will do with it all but it was so pretty and easy to collect.

Hi Fish - nice to meet you. I'm living in the foothills above Sacramento, almost to Placerville. Love it here. Can get to Tahoe, San Francisco and the ocean with a two hour drive. You would think that finding rocks in gold country wouldn't be too hard, but I haven't had much luck locally.

Its funny, I never thought much about age until this year. It does depend on the company we're with. Sometimes I feel really old at work, but at my rock club I'm a spring chicken (we just lost one of our more senior members, she was 104 years old). To carry on your theme - it is all relative.

Hi J, my son lives in Roseville. When he married his ex-wife it was at a vineyard just up from Sutter's Mill. I get out there as often as I can, I really love it there. Placerville is a neat town. I also like it up around Nevada City. Catch Tahoe everytime I'm there.
Ron
ps There was an old member from Reno who said that she collected lots of great rock locally.
