Hey y'all, just wanted to introduce myself, I retired from the Navy almost four years ago and I'm into everything....hotrods, Harleys, antiques and my kids. I had a small rock tumbler when I was a kid, I've always been fascinated with rocks and even had a nice little collection (about 25 years ago), they're long gone but I've started again. Two weeks ago I ordered a Thumblers Ultra-Vibe model UV-10. My first load is still in the coarse stage, they say four days but I re-charged and went for 2 more days to get the desired results. These are rocks that I picked up off the bottom of a lake in Flin Flon Manitoba Canada last month while I was on vacation with some awesome people that I met on a Chevy truck board about five years ago. Anyhow, these rocks are beautiful and are really smoothing down quite well. I also have a box of some sort of quartz that was blasted out of a mountain to cut a road through, that's going to be the next batch. I've been lurking here for about two weeks and have picked up on some great info. I hope to have some nice rock pics to share in about a week or so. From the reading that I've done here, you all are a great crowd of people! Oh, almost forgot.....here's me!..... www.randysrods.freeservers.com/photo4.html

I painted her's myself about 3 years ago, it's the second paint job that I've done on that bike. When she gets tired of it I'll paint it a different color. LOL

Welcome to the forum Randy!! Awesome pics, those are some great looking rides! You don't look old enough to be "retired" from anything *smile* but thanks for the years you put in serving. Don't just "enjoy" your kids, turn them on to nature and into rockhounds. There's nothing like having the young ones bring you their best finds.

when I retired everyone asked me what are you going to do now? my answer was I don't know but it will be so far removed from working on telephones and computers that it will make everyones head spin. three months latter I started polishing rocks that was 4 years ago. now not only do I polish cut and set stones I do silversmithing art and craft shows home jewelry parties plus teach some of the things I have learned along the way. my 5 minute hobby has turned into a job of joy should have done this when I first saw it in the usaf 33 years ago it is alot more satisfing than working on phones

i've read that all Navy ships USED to have full lapidary shops on them for recreation (nice, huh?) but i guess that was a while ago as this particular hobby (stone work) seems to be an "old timer" thing and just now getting new life (i could be wrong...) by a new generation.
it certainly IS addictive, bikerrandy, as you can see from the posts and photos in here.
ESPECIALLY if your daughter likes jewelry..............lol.
cheers,
KD
