hi everybody, i am new to rock tumbling. my daughter and i will probably start our first load this weekend. this looked like a great site for the beginner and i am sure we will need some pointers. we have been collecting some rocks for the last month or so mostly from vacation at lake Erie in N.Y. state. I dont really know what we have collected but we will see what we end up with. are there any good finds in PA OR MD?

HiFfjoe, and welcome! If you get a chance when the rocks you collected from the lake are done I'd really like to see some pics! I live about 90 miles from there, and have spent a lot of vacation time there, never thought to go collecting. I guess that makes me a bad rocker or something. lol

Hi Joe and joe's daughter, Welcome to the forum. I'm from Minnesota so can't help much with the kind of stones there are out east but we do have a lot of members so hopefully someone will be able to help. This is a great hobby to get into, especially when you can do it with your kids, I think that's just super.

Hi duckbean , i will be sure to post some pics when they are done, im new so i dont know what i have so ....?, we spent a week at lake Erie state park near Dunkirk. quite a bit of decent looking rocks. we also stopped at a rock shop in dunkirk and got a box of tumbling rocks so all will not be lost if the stuff collected doesnt work out!

Hey FFjoe you may be surprised ! Some times you pick up something that looks a little interesting and after you get it tumbled it's a beauty! That's the really neat thing about rock tumbling you never know what your going to get till you get through that rough outer surface.

Hello FFJoe,
I am a new member here as well and I live in Maryland. We have plenty of quartz around here and some of it tumbles up real nice. And I also found a hunk of something that I think is jade. I don't remember exactly where I found it though.
