Short version: Is it okay to constantly start and stop the tumbling process? Long version: My current rock shop consists of a Hobby Lobby cheapo under a bucket way out in the yard as far away from the house as the extension cord will allow. Noise. Once a week I do the process after I lift the bucket off the tumbler – not an easy chore as I have two male dogs. Sorry. I would post a picture of this but would hate for anyone to get jealous of this sophisticated set up. I have since gotten my hands on two larger tumblers. One is a double #3 and one is a single #3. I set up in the laundry room and they still failed the noise test. They sound fine to me…just the grumpy BIG HIM gets bent with the constant noise. He said he would be happy to set me up with water and electricity in the shed. We don’t have a shed. Such an opportunist! Can I put these things on a timer and only run them at night when grumps is sleeping? I know this sounds insane to you guys but I really am serious about doing these rocks! My step-sons have gotten into it as they now bring me pretty speckled stones they have found here and there. It is turning into a family project sans pops. Thanks, Carol If anything, you guys can get a good laugh at my dilemma. I have seen the pictures you all have posted. You look like a great group of folks that REALLY know what you are doing. Gorgeous rocks.

LOL Sounds like you have the same problem some others have, give him a box of ear plugs and tell him to stuff it. *smile* Ok, just kidding. Do try what Xena suggested and post your questions over on the General Forum, that's where you'll get the best suggestions as to how to help. There's been a few who have had to deal with the noise issue so someone should have an answer. All things lost, no, it's not going to hurt them to turn off but it will take you much longer to get them done.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
Read the postings...got 3 fluffy towels and turned on my darlings. The noise is now somewhat tolerable for BIG HIM. He still plans to build something for it. At least he is FINALLY on board.
I can hear the happy humming coming from the laundry room. I thought this would be a one time project but I just caught myself buying Gem Trails of the Midwest.
Hmmmmm
Thanks again, Carol
