Hello all! My borther in law enjoys rock tumbling but hasn't done it in a while. When we met a few months back I heard him mention that he hadn't been able to find a tumbler. For christmas my husband and I were thinking of getting him one. What would you suggest? I see that there are rubber tumblers for 'quiter' tumbling, but does this affect the quality? I believe that in the past he had one purchased for childs crafts, like the ones found at Toy's R US?! But would like to get him a good one, any help would be great! ;D

I would recommend a Lortone 33B. I bought my first one and loved it so much I bought another. I really like mine and I think they are quiet running. Kind of reminds my hubby of a babbling brook kind of sound. I think it's kind of a soothing noise myself. You can't go wrong with these.

Great thank you so much. How long does one of these last??? I have also read that four containers are needed for the whole process, so should we purchase two additional?

Some use a barrel for each stage, but I use the same barrel for each stage up to pre-polish, then use different barrel for only pre-polish and polish, I haven't had any problem yet. Terry

I now have two lortone tumblers..one is a 6 pounder and the other is a bouble barrel 3 pounder. I use the barrels for all phases of tumbling..cleaning them real good between stages. You can go to www.therockshed.com and find some tumblers there. The Rock Shed seems to be a favorite place for a lot of members of this group. I have used them and highly recommend them. I don't think you can find better service anywhere else. Pho
