Hi All, I've just started - have my first batches in the tumbler Lortodone 33BNR: rose quartz and a mix that came with the tumbler.
I had read most of the threads and guides on this site - what an awesome resource. I hope my first tumble works out!
I moved to NW British Columbia 7 years ago and into a house formerly owned by a lapidary. I've found bits and chunks of great rocks in the yard as well as a couple of cool geodes. Plus, I've been toting home rock specimens since I moved here - the mountains, streams and rivers here are filled with interesting stuff. I suspect the former home owner left a "curse" on the house and I'm doomed.
Now I'm adding to my "wish list" of supplies...and stones...

Welcome to the forum Shelbeeray That's pretty cool that your house is a lapidary house. I'd say you have no choice but to be totally hooked on rocks. You have a good tumbler, love my lortones! Looking forward to seeing pics of your first tumbles.

Thanks for all the postiive comments!
I'm getting nervous about this - I've already gone down, unplugged the tumbler and opened the barrels twice! I don't know if I have the patience for this!!!! Delaying Gratification is not one of my strong points...
But, I've brought all the cool rocks I've collected into the garage and I plan on breaking them up into little pieces and sorting them...then glaring at the tumblers for a few weeks until I can put the new stones in!
I think one is BC jade, so I'm pretty excited about that one! Another is red and black, kind of looks like a jasper. I need to go back to school to learn to identify these things!
Yup. I'm doomed.

welcome shelbee, patience is hard to come by for some (me) of us. I've bought a saw and learned flint knapping to help distract me from the tumblers. Just remember, hte more you open the longer the delay before finished product

Oh I can't wait to hear about your equipment budget about 2 months from now!! Lack of patience in this hobby translates into your gonna buy a lot of tools. Soon. Shelbee, it's gonna be fun to watch you grow into this hobby. Have fun whacking rocks. joe

Hi Shelbee, I'm new too but have learned alot here so far and really enjoy the company. I gotta tell ya though, what Drupe said about the answers you'll get making sense? Wellll....I'd say that's generally true, but once in awhile some of these rascals get, well, a bit rascally! (yeah, you know who you are

Pete,
Thanks - the curse is already starting to work!!! My bf just got home with a brand new grinder bought specifically for my (our) rocks. And now he's outside working on shaping some of the stones. He even mentioned that we're just going to have to find a bigger house with a bigger garage & maybe with a basement.
Oh happy day - Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
