Hey Everyone,
Found this list a couple of weeks ago and have enjoyed all of the posts and have picked up some good tips. My 6 yr. old daughter is responsible for this new hobby. She has been dragging rocks home with her since she was old enough to walk, she is fascinated with rocks. I bought her one of those toy tumblers awhile back, but it only held a small amount of rocks and the results were not very good. Well, to make a long story short..........we have a 12# Lortone in the garage on the polish step that will finish this weekend. It is hard to resist the urge to open it up and take a peek. I think she has more patience than me. We are now tumbling a mixture of Llanoite(We picked up about 20# a few weeks ago, we live near Llano) and some other local rocks that I think(disclaimer) are mostly quartz and some cool looking gravel. I look forward to sharing my results and stories. I also hope to make some trades as well. Regards, terryb

Hi Terry, Welcome to the forum to both you and your daughter. It's a great hobby for kids and I love hearing about them getting a chance to be out in nature with their parents. Can't wait to see how yours turns out, hope you have a camera, we love pics.

I second Cher's motion. Congrats on the new tumbler. Sounds like you are well on your way to a lifetime of tumbling addiction and all that accompanies it.....LOL. Hope your first batch turns out to be a winner.

How do terry and welcome. So you went froma toy to a 12lber - i'd say thats a nice step up. Don't know if I've seen 12lbs of rock all polished up at the same time. Must see pics of that.
Where in TX you from?

Hey all,
Thanks for the welcome. I live just south of Austin, Robert. The step up from the toy to the 12lb was a big step. I was going to get the double 3lb, and then I changed my mind to getting the double 6lb, and after a while of thinking about it, I just said what the heck and I ended up with the 12lb. It's going to take a lot of rock hunts to feed that big boy! With that said, I am still considering getting another smaller tumbler. If I had another tumbler, I could play with rocks more than just once a week.

yea terry I started with a 6 and double 3s. Just ordered another double 3 and double 6. Want to have enough going to be able to run 2 of the 3lbers on polish only. Have you been to the Dime Box area to collect any tektites? You can find them around Lake Somerville.

Ah Terry. Been trying to talk my wife into moving to the Llano-San Saba area for years. Love that part of the Hill Country! Probably my favorite place to take drives, take pictures, rock hunt and observe the wildlife. You're very lucky to live there! Not that far from the great agate areas of west Texas too. Welcome to the forum...Mel

Thanks for the Lake Somerville tip, I live about 1.5 hours from there. Will make a good day trip. Do you know of any specific locations Robert? Matt, what is pho in Lyons? Thanks for the tips. I am thinking about a spring trip to west Texas, but I need to do some research on the area, suggestions?
