Just wanted to say hi to everyone. I am totally new to the hobby. I was always interested in fossils and things, but I started becoming interested in rocks a few years ago when I began working as a fabricator at a shop that makes custom marble and granite countertops. I was amazed at how beautiful granite and marble is. I really loved that job, but it was really dangerous, so I do not work there anymore. My GF's mother learned that I really liked rocks, so I have been getting rocks for X-mas from her for the last 3 years(everyone thought that was real funny, getting rocks for X-mas!) I have always wanted a rock tumbler, and for x-mas this year my GF's Mom really surprised me and got me one! It's a nice vibrating one, I can't wait to use it, after I learn a little about the hobby. I look forward to talking with all of you. -Jason

You got a vibe for your first tumbler? You lucky #%@. What kind did you get and how big? May I suggest asking alot of questions about working the vibe, if you have any. They are kinda touchy, with the amount of water, grit and polish to use. I also suggest getting a rolling tumbler to use for the course grit, to get the rough edges off first. And another thing get another barrel for the vibe to use just for polish. Any questions, just ask, or PM me. One last thing, new members are required to post a minimum of 30 pictures in the first month, one of which has to be with you and your setup....

Hey Edog! When did the new member requirements change? I thought new people had to send 10 lbs. of rock to all active members!! Then they post the photos.

Ten pounds of rocks? Would tumbled driveway gravel be OK?

Thanks for the warm welcome. I DO plan on asking a lot of ?'s, Edog, and thanks for the tips. I was getting the impression from what I have read that vibes are great, but a little tricky for the beginner. The only rocks I have so far are the ones that my GF's mom gave me, she got them from the guy who sold her the tumbler, who had just closed his rock store, so I assume that whatever the rocks are, they will polish up well. The tumbler is a VT 6 made by Graves, and I am assuming from the size of the bowls (it came with 2, one for polishing only) and the name (VT6) that it will hold 6 lbs. of material. Yeah, rockds, I do miss that job(a lot), but I am enjoying my work now, because I am now the owner of a small lawn care company. I have always wanted to own my own business, and I love it! Thanks again, everyone. Talk to you soon, I have plenty of questions! Later....
