I live in Washington out in the suburbs of Seattle. I've always wanted to get into the hobby but for some reason, never did. But now with so much time on my hands, and my penchant for collecting rocks from wherever we go, it is the perfect opportunity to explore this hobby.
There was a huge landslide on one of the mountains north of me. I think it happened a couple years ago. Anyway, last weekend, we went there and I saw all sorts of amazing rocks just waiting for my tumbler (which I just bought on ebay). there was olivine and granite and schist (sp?) and lots of other stuff I need to identify.
My other interests include cooking and knitting. I am an avid reader, mostly non-fiction. I am an admin of a political board and put out a weekly internet radio show with some friends, which is great fun.
Anyway, I have so much to learn and will most likely be haunting this place quite a bit.

A political board? Should I send you a copy of Rush Limbaugh singing "I'm A Nazi"? Ron ps Just pulling your leg. We've had some pretty good political discussions here as well.

HAHA we loved that one when it made the rounds. Have you seen RipRap's latest ditty of Bush doing a review of 2-0-5?
Well, looks like we have a break in the weather (I am so sick of rain) so we are going to go to the rock slide and hunt. The tumbler should arrive next week. Found a 15# tumbler on ebay. OOH I need to get some grit. I got polisher from the same guy I got the tumbler from. I wonder if Seattle has a rock hound supply store. Must add on my to-do list.

Hawke, mostly I buy because the weather sucks so bad I refuse to go out in it. But once in awhile I'll go to the ocean or pick of cool looking stuff when I'm out metal detecting. Which suburb are ya in?

Well, I am in unincorporated King County, though we will eventually be annexed into Kirkland.
I need a good book to help with rock identification. I have all these bootiful rocks now and no idea what i picked up.
